A Two-Stage Transformation
This project with Red Cedar Constructions was completed in two exciting stages, each blending thoughtful design with creative flair.
Stage 1 began with the construction of a 30m² self-contained granny flat—a compact space packed with personality. The client wanted something functional yet unique, and we had a lot of fun delivering just that. Contemporary joinery, including a pull-down bed and kitchenette, contrasts beautifully with exposed recycled timber collar ties. A custom Corten steel sliding door sections off the bathroom, which features high-end Boffi fixtures, including a full-height shower, basin, and shelving. Polished concrete floors, Corten roofing, and automated skylights complete what we believe is one of the coolest granny flats ever built.
A few years later, Stage 2 saw the renovation of the 1970s rear extension of the main house. The original cottage was restored and repainted, with all timber rot removed. A new elegant kitchen and powder room were added, featuring a double-height ceiling, large skylights, and expansive glass to the rear. The highlight? Stunning Chevron-patterned recycled European oak flooring with a double border detail. From the 4m one-piece glass splashback to floating timber elements, every finish was carefully considered—making this project as joyful as it was beautiful.
